Job Description

Job Purpose:  Creates quality products by setting up and operating Water Jet machinery.

Works under general supervision.


Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.                                              

  1. Verifies work orders and ensures all jobs are sent out according to schedule.
  2. Obtains information for upcoming jobs by communicating with programmers, tool makers, and opposite shift regarding specifications, potential issues, tie-in details, and work order numbers.
  3. Prepares to run job by locating, prepping, and setting up machine, tools, tooling, cutters, parts, fixtures, and materials. Finishes backup work orders.
  4. Manufactures new parts by obtaining materials, prints, and programs; setting up parts and tools; writing, editing, and loading program; running part per print, model, program, or tool maker instructions; ensuring machine is running correctly; obtains part layout; removing part; deburring and cleaning part; labeling part; and removing tooling.
  5. Provides internal Water Jet job quote/estimates. Maintains job specific paperwork and creates files for Water Jet machines.
  6. Assists with lifting metal on and off machinery as well as placing metal in racks.
  7. Operates machines including water jet, flow cutter, and flow machines.
  8. Ensures job accuracy by reading blueprints, verifying dimensions, checking parts per print dimension, editing programs, editing feeds and speeds, proving programs,
  9. Maintains electronic information by backing up programs, tapes, and CNC files.
  10. Improves production quality, efficiency, and timeliness by modifying programs and revising production notes and tapes.
  11. Conducts machine maintenance by identifying needed repairs, filling and/or replacing fluids, checking lubrication lines, cleaning and/or replacing filters, checking hoses, and cleaning machinery. Adds sand to flow machines annually. Completes machine maintenance sheet.
  12. Maintains quality standards by reworking jobs to meet specifications.
  13. Records machine time by logging hours the machine has been powered on and run time.
  14. Maintains inventory by verifying stock material and ordering machinery supplies and stock parts.
  15. Maintains personal precision tools by inspecting, calibrating, repairing and ordering tooling.  
  16. Prepares jobs information for second shift crew.
  17. Becomes familiar with the quality system requirements as it pertains to the department.
  18. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Secures tools, materials and equipment at end of day. Shuts yard gate and locks doors.
  19. Contributes to team effort by actively participating in team meetings.

  1. High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum oftwo years computer editing orotherrelated experience generally required. CAD experience preferred.

  3. Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, coworkers and management.
  4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, procedure manuals and job instructions.
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
  6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  7. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  8. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  9. Ability to use hand and power tools.
  10. Ability to operate computer and computer software, to include Microsoft Office products.
  11. Ability to use hoist and forklift.
  12. Ability to use department equipment such as precision tools, as I.D. and O.D. micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators and scales.
  13. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
