Hot Form Dies

The process of hot forming allows for the shaping of high temperature alloys which is an important method for creating quality and high strength aircraft parts and custom tooling. This process has numerous advantages over other forming methods as it is accurate and able to handle complex and intricate shapes. This process is similar to cold forming, but unlike other methods of forming, both the tool and the component are heated. The temperatures can range from 600-980 degrees Celsius, depending on the materials used. The process works by bringing the sheet metal in contact with the hot die at the same time the hot punch is lowered into the die, shaping the part. For the part to form properly, it must be held under the forming pressure for a certain amount of time.

A major advantage of hot form dies is the ability to create an accurate form. High definition of form is possible with hot form as it prevents springback and allows for the most accurate way to form a part. The ability to create complex shapes that are consistent and accurate is vital to the success of a part and the company's reputation. The hot forming process will prevent thinning or necking of the sheet. It allows for high definition of form by heating both the sheet metal and tooling.
